Ingredients
- 2.5 cups Whole wheat flour (For Milk and Water Bread)
- 1.25 cups Water (For Milk and Water Bread)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (For Milk and Water Bread)
- 2 tablespoons Molasses
- 1 cup English walnut meats or pecan nuts (Broken in small pieces)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (For spreading)
- 0.5 cup Orange marmalade
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, water, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- 2Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 3Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 4Punch down the dough. Add the molasses and broken walnuts or pecans. Knead to distribute evenly.
- 5Shape the dough into a loaf. Place in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until almost doubled.
- 6Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Let cool completely.
- 7Let the bread stand for twenty-four hours before slicing.
- 8Slice the bread as thinly as possible. Spread sparingly and evenly with butter. Put orange marmalade between slices. Remove crusts, cut in fancy shapes, and garnish with nut meats (optional).
