Modernized Crackers
A collection of modernized cracker recipes, including souffléd crackers, crackers with cheese, and croûtons.
Ingredients
- 24 crackers Common crackers (saltines) (About one sleeve)
- 2 cups Ice water
- 2 tablespoons Butter, softened
- 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 slices Stale bread
- 2 cups Vegetable oil (for frying) (Or as needed)
Instructions
- 1Split the common crackers (saltines) in half. Soak them in ice water to cover for 8 minutes.
- 2Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Dot the soaked crackers with softened butter. Bake in the preheated oven until puffed and browned, about 8-10 minutes.
- 3Arrange saltines in a baking pan. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- 4Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until the cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5Cut stale bread into 1/3-inch slices and remove the crusts. Spread the slices thinly with butter. Cut the slices into 1/3-inch cubes.
- 6Option 1 (Baking): Put the bread cubes in a pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until delicately brown, about 8-10 minutes. Option 2 (Frying): Fry the bread cubes in deep vegetable oil until golden brown.
