Modern Thin White Sauce
A classic thin white sauce, perfect for binding dishes or as a base for other sauces. This recipe includes instructions for a cream sauce variation.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1.5 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Milk (Scalded)
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt
- 0.0625 teaspoon Black pepper (Pinch)
- 1 cup Heavy cream (For cream sauce variation, substitute for milk)
Instructions
- 1In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until bubbling.
- 2Add the flour, salt, and pepper to the melted butter. Stir constantly until thoroughly blended and smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
- 3Gradually pour in the scalded milk, about one-third at a time, stirring constantly until well mixed after each addition. Continue stirring until the sauce is smooth and glossy.
- 4For a cream sauce, substitute the milk with heavy cream in step 3.
