Modern Sardine Canapés
A modernized version of sardine canapés, featuring a creamy sardine spread on toasted bread, topped with a stuffed olive and a decorative border.
Ingredients
- 1 can (4.37 oz) Canned sardines in olive oil (Drained)
- 6 slices Baguette or similar bread (About 1/2 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (Softened)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 pinch Cayenne pepper
- 6 olives Green olives, pimento-stuffed
- 1 sprig Fresh parsley (Finely chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
- 1Drain the sardines from the olive oil. Remove any visible bones. Place the sardines in a small bowl.
- 2Using a fork, mash the sardines into a smooth paste. Add the softened butter, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper. Mix well until everything is fully combined and creamy.
- 3Toast the baguette slices until golden brown. Let cool slightly.
- 4Spread the sardine mixture evenly onto each toasted bread slice. Remove the pimento from the olives. Fill the cavity of each olive with a small amount of the sardine mixture. Place a stuffed olive in the center of each canapé. Garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley.
