Modern Puff Pastry Baking
A modernized guide to baking perfect puff pastry, ensuring a light and flaky result every time.
Ingredients
- 1 package (14-16 oz) Puff Pastry (Store-bought or homemade)
- 1 Egg (For egg wash (optional))
- 1 tsp Water (For egg wash (optional))
Instructions
- 1Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and ensures even baking.
- 2Shape the puff pastry into your desired forms (patties, vol-au-vents, etc.). Place the shaped pastry on the prepared baking sheet. Chill thoroughly in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking. This helps the pastry retain its shape and rise properly.
- 3In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. This will give the pastry a golden-brown color.
- 4Brush the chilled pastry with the egg wash (if using). Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and has risen fully. For vol-au-vents, cover loosely with foil for the first half of the baking time to prevent excessive browning.
- 5Once baked, remove the pastry from the oven and let it cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature.
