Modern Orange Trifle

A modernized version of a classic orange trifle, incorporating gelatin for a stable and delicious dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Gelatin (Granulated)
  • 0.5 cup Cold Water
  • 2 cups Orange Juice (Freshly squeezed)
  • 0.5 cup Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Orange Zest
  • 12 pieces Ladyfingers
  • 0.25 cup Sherry (Optional)
  • 2 cups Vanilla Custard (Store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream (For topping)
  • 1 cup Orange Segments (For garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water. Let it stand for 5 minutes to bloom.
  2. 2In a saucepan, combine orange juice and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved. Add orange zest.
  3. 3Line the bottom of a trifle dish or individual serving glasses with ladyfingers. If desired, sprinkle ladyfingers with sherry. Pour the orange juice mixture over the ladyfingers. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  4. 4Once the orange layer is set, spread a layer of vanilla custard over the top. Top with whipped cream and garnish with orange segments.
  5. 5Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
