Modern Orange Trifle
A modernized version of a classic orange trifle, incorporating gelatin for a stable and delicious dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Gelatin (Granulated)
- 0.5 cup Cold Water
- 2 cups Orange Juice (Freshly squeezed)
- 0.5 cup Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Orange Zest
- 12 pieces Ladyfingers
- 0.25 cup Sherry (Optional)
- 2 cups Vanilla Custard (Store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup Whipped Cream (For topping)
- 1 cup Orange Segments (For garnish)
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water. Let it stand for 5 minutes to bloom.
- 2In a saucepan, combine orange juice and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved. Add orange zest.
- 3Line the bottom of a trifle dish or individual serving glasses with ladyfingers. If desired, sprinkle ladyfingers with sherry. Pour the orange juice mixture over the ladyfingers. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
- 4Once the orange layer is set, spread a layer of vanilla custard over the top. Top with whipped cream and garnish with orange segments.
- 5Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
