Modern Mint Julep
A refreshing and fruity twist on the classic Mint Julep, perfect for a summer gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Water
- 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar
- 0.5 cup Claret Wine (Dry Red Wine)
- 0.25 cup Strawberry Juice
- 0.25 cup Orange Juice, freshly squeezed
- 0.5 cup Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed (From about 2-3 lemons)
- 24 leaves Fresh Mint Leaves (Plus extra for garnish)
- 6 cups Crushed Ice
Instructions
- 1In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
- 2In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, gently muddle the mint leaves with a small amount of the cooled simple syrup (about 2 tablespoons). Do not over-muddle, as this can make the mint bitter.
- 3Add the claret wine, strawberry juice, orange juice, and lemon juice to the glass with the muddled mint. Stir gently to combine.
- 4Fill the glass with crushed ice. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs. Serve immediately.
