Modern Mint Julep

Modern Mint Julep

A refreshing and fruity twist on the classic Mint Julep, perfect for a summer gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 0.5 cup Claret Wine (Dry Red Wine)
  • 0.25 cup Strawberry Juice
  • 0.25 cup Orange Juice, freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 cup Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed (From about 2-3 lemons)
  • 24 leaves Fresh Mint Leaves (Plus extra for garnish)
  • 6 cups Crushed Ice

Instructions

  1. 1In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. 2In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, gently muddle the mint leaves with a small amount of the cooled simple syrup (about 2 tablespoons). Do not over-muddle, as this can make the mint bitter.
  3. 3Add the claret wine, strawberry juice, orange juice, and lemon juice to the glass with the muddled mint. Stir gently to combine.
  4. 4Fill the glass with crushed ice. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs. Serve immediately.
