Modern Macaroons
A modernized version of a classic macaroon recipe, featuring a gelatin-based filling rolled in dried macaroon crumbs. This recipe provides a unique texture and flavor combination.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Unflavored Gelatin
- 0.5 cup Boiling Water
- 0.75 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 Egg Whites
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Dried Macaroons (Pre-made or homemade, dried and rolled into crumbs)
- 2 tablespoons Powdered Sugar (For serving)
- 0.25 cup Heavy Cream (For serving)
Instructions
- 1In a heatproof bowl, dissolve the gelatin in boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved.
- 2Add the sugar to the dissolved gelatin mixture and stir until dissolved. Place the bowl in a larger bowl filled with ice water.
- 3Add the egg whites and vanilla extract to the gelatin mixture. Beat with an electric mixer until the mixture thickens and becomes fluffy.
- 4Dip a shallow pan (approximately 8x8 inches) in cold water. Pour the thickened mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Let stand in the refrigerator until thoroughly chilled and firm (about 2 hours).
- 5Remove the chilled mixture from the pan and cut it into pieces the size and shape of marshmallows (approximately 1-inch cubes). Roll each piece in the dried macaroon crumbs, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 6Serve the macaroons with a dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of heavy cream, if desired.
