Modern Macaroons

Modern Macaroons

A modernized version of a classic macaroon recipe, featuring a gelatin-based filling rolled in dried macaroon crumbs. This recipe provides a unique texture and flavor combination.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Unflavored Gelatin
  • 0.5 cup Boiling Water
  • 0.75 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Egg Whites
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Dried Macaroons (Pre-made or homemade, dried and rolled into crumbs)
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered Sugar (For serving)
  • 0.25 cup Heavy Cream (For serving)

Instructions

  1. 1In a heatproof bowl, dissolve the gelatin in boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved.
  2. 2Add the sugar to the dissolved gelatin mixture and stir until dissolved. Place the bowl in a larger bowl filled with ice water.
  3. 3Add the egg whites and vanilla extract to the gelatin mixture. Beat with an electric mixer until the mixture thickens and becomes fluffy.
  4. 4Dip a shallow pan (approximately 8x8 inches) in cold water. Pour the thickened mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Let stand in the refrigerator until thoroughly chilled and firm (about 2 hours).
  5. 5Remove the chilled mixture from the pan and cut it into pieces the size and shape of marshmallows (approximately 1-inch cubes). Roll each piece in the dried macaroon crumbs, ensuring they are fully coated.
  6. 6Serve the macaroons with a dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of heavy cream, if desired.
