Modern Fruit Salad
A refreshing and customizable fruit salad with a light syrup or wine dressing.
Ingredients
- 1 medium Fresh Pineapple (Peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 2 tablespoons Powdered Sugar (For sprinkling on pineapple)
- 2 medium Bananas (Sliced)
- 1 pint Fresh Strawberries (Hulled and halved or quartered if large)
- 1 tablespoon Powdered Sugar (For final sprinkle)
- 2 medium Oranges (Peeled and segmented)
- 1 cup Grapes (Seedless, halved)
- 0.5 cup Wine Dressing (See recipe below)
- 0.25 cup Dry White Wine (For Wine Dressing)
- 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice (Freshly squeezed, for Wine Dressing)
- 1 tablespoon Honey (For Wine Dressing)
Instructions
- 1Peel, core, and cut the pineapple into 1/4-inch thick slices. Remove any hard centers. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar.
- 2Set the sugared pineapple slices aside in a cool place for one hour to allow the sugar to draw out some of the pineapple juice.
- 3While the pineapple is chilling, slice the bananas into thin rounds, hull and halve or quarter the strawberries, peel and segment the oranges, and halve the grapes.
- 4Drain the pineapple slices, reserving the syrup. Spread the pineapple slices on a serving dish. Arrange a circle of thin banana slices on each pineapple slice, nearly to the edge. Pile strawberries in the center.
- 5Pour the syrup drained from the pineapple over the fruit. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar. Serve immediately or chill briefly.
- 6Alternatively, arrange alternate layers of sliced pineapple, bananas, oranges, and grapes in a serving bowl.
- 7In a small bowl, whisk together the dry white wine, lemon juice, and honey until well combined.
- 8Pour the Wine Dressing over the layered fruit. Let stand in a cold place for one hour before serving.
