Modern Creole Sauce
A flavorful Creole sauce featuring tomatoes, peppers, and mushrooms, perfect for serving with seafood, chicken, or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 0.5 medium Onion, finely chopped
- 1 medium Green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes (Or 2-3 fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped)
- 0.5 cup Sliced mushrooms
- 0.25 cup Pitted green olives, sliced
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 0.5 teaspoon Dried oregano
- 0.5 teaspoon Dried thyme
- 0.125 teaspoon Cayenne pepper (Adjust to taste)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
- 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper (To taste)
Instructions
- 1In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- 2Add the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms to the saucepan and cook for another 3 minutes, until the garlic is fragrant and the mushrooms are tender.
- 3Pour in the crushed tomatoes, and add the oregano, thyme, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 4Stir in the sliced olives and simmer for another 2 minutes. Serve hot over your choice of protein or vegetables.
