Modern Creole Sauce

A flavorful Creole sauce featuring tomatoes, peppers, and mushrooms, perfect for serving with seafood, chicken, or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes (Or 2-3 fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped)
  • 0.5 cup Sliced mushrooms
  • 0.25 cup Pitted green olives, sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 0.125 teaspoon Cayenne pepper (Adjust to taste)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper (To taste)

Instructions

  1. 1In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. 2Add the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms to the saucepan and cook for another 3 minutes, until the garlic is fragrant and the mushrooms are tender.
  3. 3Pour in the crushed tomatoes, and add the oregano, thyme, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4Stir in the sliced olives and simmer for another 2 minutes. Serve hot over your choice of protein or vegetables.
