Modern Cranberry Sauce

Modern Cranberry Sauce

A simple and delicious cranberry sauce, perfect for Thanksgiving or any holiday meal. This recipe modernizes a classic by using fresh cranberries and a touch of orange zest for added flavor.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Fresh Cranberries (About 3 cups)
  • 1.25 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Orange Zest (Optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. 1Pick over the cranberries, removing any stems or bruised berries. Wash the cranberries thoroughly under cold running water.
  2. 2In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, water, and orange zest (if using). Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. 3Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened slightly. Be careful that the sauce does not boil over.
  4. 4Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the cranberry sauce cool completely. The sauce will thicken further as it cools. Skim off any foam that forms on the surface. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
