Modern Brown Bread Milk Toast

A comforting and simple breakfast or snack made with toasted brown bread and warm milk, optionally sweetened and flavored.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Brown Bread (Whole wheat or multigrain bread works well)
  • 1 cup Milk (Any kind of milk: dairy, almond, soy, etc.)
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (Optional, for spreading on toast)
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (Optional, or honey, maple syrup)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cinnamon (Optional, for flavor)

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C). Place bread slices on a baking sheet and dry in the oven until slightly crisp, about 10 minutes. This helps the bread toast better.
  2. 2Toast the brown bread slices in a toaster or under a broiler until golden brown and crisp. Spread with butter, if desired.
  3. 3Heat the milk in a saucepan or microwave until warm, but not boiling. Stir in sugar and cinnamon, if using.
  4. 4Place the toasted bread in a bowl and pour the warm milk over it. Serve immediately.
