Modern Boiled Coffee
A modernized version of boiled coffee, incorporating techniques for a smoother, richer flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Coffee grounds (Use your favorite medium-grind coffee.)
- 1 large Egg (Use a fresh egg.)
- 1.5 cups Cold water (Filtered water is recommended.)
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, whisk together the coffee grounds and the egg until well combined, forming a paste. This helps to clarify the coffee and reduce bitterness.
- 2In a saucepan, combine the coffee-egg mixture with the cold water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
- 3Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the coffee settle for a few minutes (about 2 minutes). This allows the grounds to sink to the bottom. Carefully strain the coffee through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a mug or serving container.
- 4Serve the coffee immediately. Add milk, sugar, or other desired additions to taste.
