A classic macaroni and cheese recipe made with a creamy white sauce and topped with buttered breadcrumbs.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Macaroni pasta
- 0.25 cup Butter (for buttered crumbs)
- 0.75 cup Breadcrumbs
- 4 large Eggs
- 1.75 cups Milk (for white sauce)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (for white sauce)
- 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour (for white sauce)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
- 0.25 teaspoon Paprika (Or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon Onion juice (Optional)
Instructions
- 1Cook the macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
- 2In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually whisk in 1¾ cups of milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt.
- 3Hard-boil the eggs. Peel and cut each egg into eighths lengthwise.
- 4Melt ¼ cup of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add ¾ cup of breadcrumbs and toss to coat. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- 5Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, white sauce, eggs, salt, paprika, and onion juice (if using). Mix well. Pour the mixture into a buttered baking dish. Sprinkle the buttered crumbs evenly over the top. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
