Jellied Prunes with Orange Sauce
A modernized version of jellied prunes, enhanced with a vibrant orange sauce for a delightful dessert or snack.
Ingredients
- 0.33 lb Pitted Prunes (About 1 cup)
- 2 cups Cold Water
- 0.5 cup Fresh Orange Juice (For the orange sauce)
- 1 tsp Orange Zest (For the orange sauce)
- 2 tbsp Sugar (Adjust to taste, for the orange sauce)
- 1 tsp Cornstarch (For thickening the orange sauce)
Instructions
- 1In a saucepan, combine the prunes and cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to soften.
- 2Bring the prune mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the prunes are very tender.
- 3While the prunes are simmering, prepare the orange sauce. In a separate small saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- 4In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water to form a slurry. Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the simmering orange sauce. Continue to simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 1-2 minutes.
- 5Remove the prunes from the heat and let them cool slightly. Pour the orange sauce over the prunes. Transfer to a serving dish or individual ramekins. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the mixture to set into a jelly-like consistency.
