Jellied Prunes with Orange Sauce

Jellied Prunes with Orange Sauce

A modernized version of jellied prunes, enhanced with a vibrant orange sauce for a delightful dessert or snack.

Ingredients

  • 0.33 lb Pitted Prunes (About 1 cup)
  • 2 cups Cold Water
  • 0.5 cup Fresh Orange Juice (For the orange sauce)
  • 1 tsp Orange Zest (For the orange sauce)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar (Adjust to taste, for the orange sauce)
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch (For thickening the orange sauce)

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, combine the prunes and cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to soften.
  2. 2Bring the prune mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the prunes are very tender.
  3. 3While the prunes are simmering, prepare the orange sauce. In a separate small saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  4. 4In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water to form a slurry. Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the simmering orange sauce. Continue to simmer, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. 5Remove the prunes from the heat and let them cool slightly. Pour the orange sauce over the prunes. Transfer to a serving dish or individual ramekins. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the mixture to set into a jelly-like consistency.
