Glazed Onions
A simple and flavorful side dish of glazed onions, perfect for adding a touch of sweetness to any meal. Includes a recipe for fried onions as well.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Small silver skinned onions (About 1 inch in diameter)
- 4 cups Water (For boiling onions)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (For baking dish)
- 1 cup Brown stock (Highly seasoned)
- 1 tablespoon Sugar (Granulated)
- 2 medium Medium-sized onions
- 1.5 tablespoons Butter (For frying onions)
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
Instructions
- 1Peel the small silver skinned onions.
- 2Cook the peeled onions in boiling water for 15 minutes. Drain the onions.
- 3Dry the drained onions on cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.
- 4Put the dried onions in a buttered baking dish.
- 5Add highly seasoned brown stock to cover the bottom of the dish, sprinkle with sugar.
- 6Bake until soft, basting with stock in pan. This should take approximately 30 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
- 7Remove skins from the medium-sized onions. Cut in thin slices.
- 8Put the sliced onions in a hot omelet pan with butter. Cook until brown, occasionally shaking the pan so the onions may not burn, or turn the onions, using a fork.
- 9Sprinkle with salt one minute before taking from fire. Serve immediately.
