Easy Thin White Sauce

Easy Thin White Sauce

A simple and versatile thin white sauce, perfect for dipping toast or as a base for other sauces.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.125 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 slices Toast (For serving)

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. 2Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a smooth roux. Be careful not to burn the butter.
  3. 3Gradually whisk in the milk, a little at a time, ensuring each addition is fully incorporated before adding more. This will prevent lumps from forming.
  4. 4Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. 5Serve the thin white sauce warm with toast for dipping.
