Creamed Peas

A simple and comforting side dish of peas in a creamy white sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Frozen Peas (Can use fresh or canned peas, adjust cooking time accordingly.)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • 1.5 cups Milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
  • 0.125 teaspoon Black Pepper (Or to taste)

Instructions

  1. 1If using frozen peas, no preparation is needed. If using canned peas, drain and rinse them. If using fresh peas, shell them.
  2. 2In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, and cook until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
  3. 3Add the peas to the white sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Heat through, stirring occasionally, about 3-5 minutes. If using frozen peas, cook until tender.
  4. 4Serve hot as a side dish.
