Creamed Peas
A simple and comforting side dish of peas in a creamy white sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Frozen Peas (Can use fresh or canned peas, adjust cooking time accordingly.)
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
- 1.5 cups Milk
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
- 0.125 teaspoon Black Pepper (Or to taste)
Instructions
- 1If using frozen peas, no preparation is needed. If using canned peas, drain and rinse them. If using fresh peas, shell them.
- 2In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, and cook until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
- 3Add the peas to the white sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Heat through, stirring occasionally, about 3-5 minutes. If using frozen peas, cook until tender.
- 4Serve hot as a side dish.
