Cocoa Nib Shell Tea
A simple, old-fashioned tea made from boiling shells (like eggshells or seashells) and optionally flavored with cocoa nibs. Modernized for safety and flavor.
Ingredients
- 6 eggshells Cleaned Eggshells (From 6 large eggs, thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Alternatively, use food-grade seashells.)
- 6 cups Water (Filtered water is recommended.)
- 0.33 cup Cocoa Nibs (Optional, for a chocolate flavor.)
- 0.5 cup Milk (To taste, for serving. Dairy or non-dairy.)
- 1 tablespoon Sugar (To taste, for serving. Or other sweetener.)
Instructions
- 1Thoroughly clean and sanitize the eggshells. Boil them in water for 10 minutes to ensure they are free of bacteria. Rinse well.
- 2In a large pot, combine the cleaned shells and 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3 hours. Add more water as needed to maintain the original volume.
- 3If desired, add the cocoa nibs to the pot during the last hour of simmering. This will infuse the tea with a chocolate flavor.
- 4Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the shells and cocoa nibs (if used). Serve hot with milk and sugar to taste.
