Cocoa Nib Shell Tea

Cocoa Nib Shell Tea

A simple, old-fashioned tea made from boiling shells (like eggshells or seashells) and optionally flavored with cocoa nibs. Modernized for safety and flavor.

Ingredients

  • 6 eggshells Cleaned Eggshells (From 6 large eggs, thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Alternatively, use food-grade seashells.)
  • 6 cups Water (Filtered water is recommended.)
  • 0.33 cup Cocoa Nibs (Optional, for a chocolate flavor.)
  • 0.5 cup Milk (To taste, for serving. Dairy or non-dairy.)
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar (To taste, for serving. Or other sweetener.)

Instructions

  1. 1Thoroughly clean and sanitize the eggshells. Boil them in water for 10 minutes to ensure they are free of bacteria. Rinse well.
  2. 2In a large pot, combine the cleaned shells and 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3 hours. Add more water as needed to maintain the original volume.
  3. 3If desired, add the cocoa nibs to the pot during the last hour of simmering. This will infuse the tea with a chocolate flavor.
  4. 4Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the shells and cocoa nibs (if used). Serve hot with milk and sugar to taste.
