Classic Cream Sauce

A simple and versatile cream sauce, perfect for serving with Zweiback or other dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Whole milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.125 teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. 2Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until smooth. This creates a roux.
  3. 3Gradually whisk in the milk, a little at a time, ensuring each addition is fully incorporated before adding more. This prevents lumps from forming.
  4. 4Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. 5Serve the cream sauce warm with Zweiback (as suggested by recipe 61) or your favorite dishes. It pairs well with vegetables, meats, or pasta.
