Chocolate Cream

A simple and classic chocolate cream dessert, perfect for a light and satisfying treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Milk (Whole milk recommended for richness)
  • 5 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup Sugar (Granulated sugar)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.333 cup Cold Milk
  • 2 ounces Unsweetened Chocolate (Chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (Optional)

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, heat 2 cups of milk over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not boil.
  2. 2In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 1/3 cup of cold milk until smooth.
  3. 3Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the scalded milk. Add the sugar and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for 1 minute more, stirring constantly.
  4. 4Remove from heat and stir in the chopped chocolate until melted and smooth. Stir in vanilla extract, if using.
  5. 5Pour the chocolate cream into individual serving dishes or a single bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill completely.
