Chocolate Bread Pudding
A simple and comforting chocolate bread pudding, perfect for a cozy dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Baker's unsweetened chocolate (Approximately 2 squares)
- 0.66 cup Granulated sugar
- 2 Large eggs
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 0.5 small loaf Stale bread (About 4-5 slices)
- 3.5 cups Milk
- 0.5 cup Molasses
- 1 tablespoon Butter (For greasing the dish)
Instructions
- 1Cut the bread into cubes and place in a bowl. Pour 3 cups of milk over the bread and let it soak for 30 minutes, pressing down occasionally to ensure even soaking.
- 2Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler). Be careful not to let the bottom of the bowl touch the water. Stir until smooth.
- 3Remove the melted chocolate from the heat. Add half of the sugar (1/3 cup) and about 1/2 cup of the milk from the soaked bread to the melted chocolate. Stir until smooth and the sugar is dissolved. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs slightly. Add the chocolate mixture, remaining sugar (1/3 cup), salt, vanilla, molasses and the remaining 1/2 cup milk to the soaked bread. Mix well to combine.
- 4Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 8x8 inch baking dish with butter. Pour the bread pudding mixture into the prepared dish. Bake for 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 5Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with hard sauce or cream sauce.
