Chocolate Bread Pudding

Chocolate Bread Pudding

A simple and comforting chocolate bread pudding, perfect for a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Baker's unsweetened chocolate (Approximately 2 squares)
  • 0.66 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 small loaf Stale bread (About 4-5 slices)
  • 3.5 cups Milk
  • 0.5 cup Molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (For greasing the dish)

Instructions

  1. 1Cut the bread into cubes and place in a bowl. Pour 3 cups of milk over the bread and let it soak for 30 minutes, pressing down occasionally to ensure even soaking.
  2. 2Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler). Be careful not to let the bottom of the bowl touch the water. Stir until smooth.
  3. 3Remove the melted chocolate from the heat. Add half of the sugar (1/3 cup) and about 1/2 cup of the milk from the soaked bread to the melted chocolate. Stir until smooth and the sugar is dissolved. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs slightly. Add the chocolate mixture, remaining sugar (1/3 cup), salt, vanilla, molasses and the remaining 1/2 cup milk to the soaked bread. Mix well to combine.
  4. 4Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 8x8 inch baking dish with butter. Pour the bread pudding mixture into the prepared dish. Bake for 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. 5Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with hard sauce or cream sauce.
