Chicken Stew
A simple and comforting chicken stew, thickened with flour and optionally enriched with butter. Serve with dumplings for a complete meal.
Ingredients
- 1 whole (about 3-4 lbs) Chicken (Cut into pieces)
- 6 cups Water (Boiling)
- 0.5 tablespoon Salt
- 0.125 teaspoon Black pepper
- 0.333 cup All-purpose flour
- 0.25 cup Cold water (For slurry)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (Optional)
Instructions
- 1Dress, clean, and cut up the chicken into serving pieces.
- 2Put the chicken pieces in a stewpan or large pot. Cover with boiling water. Cook slowly until the chicken is tender, about 45-60 minutes. Add salt and pepper when the chicken is about half cooked (after 25 minutes).
- 3In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and cold water until smooth to create a slurry. Gradually pour the slurry into the stew, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until the stew has thickened to your desired consistency.
- 4If desired, stir in butter for a richer flavor. Serve hot with dumplings.
