Cheese Canapés
A simple and elegant appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with melted cheese and a hint of spice. Two variations are included: one with just cheese, and another with a layer of French mustard for added flavor.
Ingredients
- 6 slices Bread (Use your favorite type of bread, sliced into 1/2 inch thickness.)
- 1 cup Cheddar Cheese (Grated)
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
- 0.125 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (Pinch, to taste)
- 1 tablespoon French Mustard (Optional, for Cheese Canapés II)
Instructions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut bread slices into circular pieces using a cookie cutter or knife. Place bread circles on a baking sheet.
- 2Toast the bread circles in the preheated oven for 3-5 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from oven.
- 3In a bowl, combine grated cheese, salt, and cayenne pepper. Mix well. Sprinkle a thick layer of the cheese mixture on top of each toasted bread circle.
- 4For Cheese Canapés II, spread a thin layer of French mustard on top of each toasted bread circle before adding the cheese mixture. Then, sprinkle the cheese mixture on top of the mustard.
- 5Place the prepared canapés back on the baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
- 6Remove from oven and serve immediately. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
