Butter Taffy
A classic butter taffy recipe, modernized for the home cook.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Light brown sugar
- 0.25 cup Molasses
- 2 tablespoons Vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Water
- 0.875 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 cup Butter
- 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
Instructions
- 1In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the light brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, water, and salt.
- 2Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Once boiling, continue to cook, without stirring, until a small amount of the mixture dropped into cold water forms a brittle thread.
- 3Remove from heat. Stir in the butter until melted and fully incorporated. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
- 4Pour the mixture into a lightly buttered 9x13 inch pan. Let cool completely.
- 5Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
