Brown Sugar Frosting

A simple and delicious frosting made with brown sugar for a rich, caramel-like flavor. This recipe is based on the classic boiled frosting method, adapted for modern kitchens.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Egg White
  • 1.5 tablespoons Water
  • 0.125 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. 1In the top of a double boiler, or a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water, combine the brown sugar, egg whites, water, and cream of tartar.
  2. 2Place the double boiler over medium heat (or the heatproof bowl over simmering water). Whisk constantly until the frosting forms stiff peaks and holds its shape, about 6-8 minutes. The frosting should be smooth and glossy.
  3. 3Remove the frosting from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. 4Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes. The frosting will set as it cools.
