Baking of Bread
A basic guide to baking bread, focusing on oven temperature and baking times.
Ingredients
- 500 grams Bread Flour
- 350 ml Water
- 7 grams Active Dry Yeast
- 10 grams Salt
- 1 tablespoon Melted Butter (optional) (For a more tender crust)
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, combine the flour, water, yeast, and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 2Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 3Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased bread pan.
- 4Cover the bread pan and let the dough rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- 5Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 30-40 minutes. The loaf should continue rising for the first 15 minutes, then begin to brown for the next 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) for the last 15 minutes. Bread is done when it doesn't cling to the sides of the pan and is easily removed.
- 6Brush the top of the bread with melted butter 3 minutes before removing from the oven for a more tender crust.
- 7Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
