Baking of Bread

A basic guide to baking bread, focusing on oven temperature and baking times.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams Bread Flour
  • 350 ml Water
  • 7 grams Active Dry Yeast
  • 10 grams Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Melted Butter (optional) (For a more tender crust)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine the flour, water, yeast, and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. 2Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  3. 3Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased bread pan.
  4. 4Cover the bread pan and let the dough rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  5. 5Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 30-40 minutes. The loaf should continue rising for the first 15 minutes, then begin to brown for the next 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) for the last 15 minutes. Bread is done when it doesn't cling to the sides of the pan and is easily removed.
  6. 6Brush the top of the bread with melted butter 3 minutes before removing from the oven for a more tender crust.
  7. 7Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
