Baked Quinces
Simple baked quinces, a classic dessert or side dish. The quinces are baked until soft and tender in a sweet syrup.
Ingredients
- 4 medium Quinces (Original recipe calls for 8, which is a large amount. Reduced to 4 for modern portions.)
- 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- 1Wipe the quinces clean. Quarter them and remove the core. Pare (peel) the quinces.
- 2Place the prepared quinces in a baking dish. Sprinkle with sugar. Add water. Cover the dish tightly with a lid or aluminum foil.
- 3Bake in a slow oven (300°F / 150°C) until the quinces are soft and tender. This will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Check occasionally to ensure the liquid hasn't evaporated; add more water if needed.
