Apple Sauce

Apple Sauce

A simple and classic apple sauce recipe, perfect as a side dish or dessert topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium Sour Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) (Original recipe calls for 8 apples, adjusted for modern portions)
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar (Adjusted from 1 cup for modern taste)
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 1 strip Lemon Rind (Thin shaving from rind of a lemon)

Instructions

  1. 1Wipe, quarter, core, and pare the apples.
  2. 2In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon rind. Bring to a boil over medium heat and boil for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup slightly thickens.
  3. 3Remove the lemon rind from the syrup. Add enough apples to cover the bottom of the saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, watching carefully and stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft (about 5-7 minutes). Remove the cooked apples and set aside. Continue cooking the remaining apples in batches until all are cooked.
  4. 4Strain the remaining syrup over the cooked apples. Stir gently to combine. Serve warm or chilled.
