Apple Crumble Pudding

Apple Crumble Pudding

A simple and comforting apple crumble pudding made with stale bread, apples, and a hint of spice. Perfect for using up leftover bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 small Stale bread loaf (About 8-10 ounces)
  • 0.5 cup Butter
  • 4 medium Apples (Peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 0.5 cup Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Grated nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Lemon rind (Grated from half a lemon)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice (From half a lemon)
  • 0.5 cup Cream (For serving)

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the loaf in half, remove the soft part, and crumble the bread by rubbing it through a colander or grating it with a cheese grater.
  2. 2Melt the butter in a saucepan or microwave. Stir the melted butter lightly into the bread crumbs with a fork until evenly moistened.
  3. 3Cover the bottom of a buttered 8x8 inch baking dish with half of the buttered bread crumbs. Spread half of the sliced apples over the crumbs. Sprinkle with half of the sugar, nutmeg, lemon juice, and lemon rind, mixed together. Repeat the layers with the remaining apples, sugar mixture, and bread crumbs.
  4. 4Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. Cover the dish loosely with foil during the first 20 minutes to prevent the crumbs from browning too quickly.
  5. 5Let the pudding cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with sugar and cream.
