Timbale of Ribbon Macaroni

Timbale of Ribbon Macaroni

A baked pasta dish using ribbon macaroni, similar to a rice or macaroni timbale.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ribbon Macaroni (Pappardelle)
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 2 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 0.5 cup, grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 cup, shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Instructions

  1. 1Cook the ribbon macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  2. 2In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease. Stir in the tomato sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. 3In a large bowl, combine the cooked ribbon macaroni, meat sauce, eggs, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well to combine.
  4. 4Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish. Pour the macaroni mixture into the prepared dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  5. 5Let the timbale cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
