Modern Meat Sauce
A rich and savory meat sauce, perfect for pasta or other dishes.
Ingredients
- 0.5 pound Ground beef (Lean ground beef recommended)
- 0.25 cup Diced ham (Finely diced)
- 1 tablespoon Butter (Unsalted)
- 0.25 cup Onion (Finely chopped)
- 0.25 cup Carrot (Finely chopped)
- 0.25 cup Celery (Finely chopped)
- 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup Beef broth (Low sodium)
- 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper (Freshly ground)
Instructions
- 1Cut the beef into small dice. Chop the ham, onion, carrot, and celery finely.
- 2In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the beef, ham, onion, carrot, and celery. Season with black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3Add the flour to the saucepan and stir to coat the meat and vegetables. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- 4Gradually add the beef broth to the saucepan, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Do not strain.
