Modern Bechamel Sauce
A classic white sauce, perfect for gratins, pasta dishes, and more. This modernized version provides clear instructions for a smooth and flavorful result.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups Milk
- 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
- 5 whole White peppercorns
- 0.125 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 cup Mushrooms, finely chopped
Instructions
- 1In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir constantly with a whisk for 5 minutes to create a smooth roux. Be careful not to brown the butter.
- 2Gradually pour in the boiling milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Continue whisking until the sauce is smooth. Add the nutmeg, peppercorns, salt, and chopped mushrooms.
- 3Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Remove from heat and rub the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps or peppercorns for an ultra-smooth sauce.
