Indian Meal (Cornbread)
A simple Indian-style cornbread, baked until golden brown. Lard provides richness and flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Cornmeal
- 0.5 cup Lard (Divided)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan (8x8 inch) with half of the lard.
- 2In a bowl, mix together the cornmeal, salt, and water until well combined.
- 3Turn out the cornmeal mixture into the prepared pan, and even it out with a wooden spoon.
- 4Spread the remaining lard, softened slightly, evenly over the top of the cornmeal mixture.
- 5Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.
- 6Serve hot.
