Fried Celery
A simple recipe for fried celery, featuring blanched celery stalks coated in breadcrumbs and fried until golden brown.
Ingredients
- 4 Celery stalks (Cut into 1-inch pieces)
- 4 cups Water (For blanching)
- 1 Egg (Beaten)
- 2 tablespoons Chicken or vegetable stock (Or hot water)
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
- 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper (To taste)
- 0.5 cup Bread crumbs (Plain or seasoned)
- 1 cup Lard or vegetable oil (For frying)
Instructions
- 1Cut off the green leaves from the celery stalks. Cut the stalks into pieces about 1 inch long. Wash the celery pieces thoroughly.
- 2Bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the celery pieces and boil for 15 minutes. Drain the celery and dry on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
- 3In a bowl, beat the egg with the stock (or hot water), salt, and pepper.
- 4Heat lard or vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Dip each celery piece in the egg mixture, then roll it in bread crumbs to coat evenly. Fry the celery in the hot oil until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the fried celery and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 5Serve the fried celery immediately while hot and crispy.
