Eggs alla Piacentina
A simple baked egg dish with cheese, perfect for a light lunch or brunch.
Ingredients
- 4 Egg whites (From large eggs)
- 4 Egg yolks (From large eggs)
- 1 tablespoon Butter (Melted)
- 1 pinch Salt (To taste)
- 1 pinch Black pepper (Freshly ground, to taste)
- 2 ounces Parmesan cheese (Thinly sliced)
- 2 ounces Gruyere cheese (Thinly sliced)
Instructions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a small baking dish (about 6-inch diameter).
- 2Place a layer or two of very thin slices of Parmesan and Gruyere cheese in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- 3Put the baking dish into the preheated oven for a few moments (about 3 minutes) until the cheese is thoroughly heated.
- 4In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- 5Gently fold in the egg yolks, melted butter, salt, and pepper into the beaten egg whites until just combined.
- 6Pour the egg mixture over the heated cheese in the baking dish.
- 7Put the baking dish back in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the eggs are puffed and a golden brown.
- 8Serve immediately while hot.
