To Preserve Strawberries
A recipe for preserving strawberries using sugar and heat.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Strawberries
- 1 pound Granulated Sugar
Instructions
- 1Pick over the strawberries, removing any bruised or damaged ones.
- 2Add the strawberries and sugar to a preserving kettle or a large, heavy-bottomed pot. Place over low heat and allow the sugar to melt, stirring occasionally.
- 3Once the sugar is melted, increase the heat and boil the mixture vigorously for precisely 25 minutes, stirring as needed to prevent burning.
- 4While the strawberries are boiling, have your sterilized jars ready. Heat the jars to prevent breakage when the hot fruit is added.
- 5Carefully pour the boiling hot strawberry mixture into the heated jars, leaving appropriate headspace. Cover and seal the jars immediately.
- 6Set the sealed jars in a cool place to cool completely.
