A classic spice cake recipe from 1888, featuring a blend of warm spices and a rich, buttery flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Royal Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Caraway Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Royal Extract Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Extract
  • 1 cup Milk

Instructions

  1. 1Sift together the flour, brown sugar, and Royal Baking Powder in a large bowl.
  2. 2Rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk, caraway seeds, coriander seeds, Royal Extract Nutmeg, Cinnamon, and Ginger. Mix until smooth, creating a batter of medium thickness.
  3. 3Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease patié pans and fill them 2/3 full with the batter. Bake in the hot oven for 8-10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
