Royal Unfermented Bread

A simple bread recipe from 1888.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoonful Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoonful Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoonfuls Baking powder
  • 1 1/2 pints Milk

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, sift together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Add the milk and mix smoothly and rapidly until a softer dough forms than can be easily handled.
  2. 2Turn the dough from the bowl into a greased bread pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes. Protect the bread by placing a piece of paper on top during the first 15 minutes of baking.
