Peach Dumplings
This recipe is a simplified version of Apple Dumplings No. 1, adapted for peaches.
Ingredients
- 6 medium Peaches
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
- 1/4 cup Cold water
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter (or shortening) using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the cold water, mixing until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
- 2Peel and pit the peaches. Slice them into wedges.
- 3Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into circles large enough to enclose each peach half. Place a peach wedge in the center of each dough circle. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Fold the dough over the peach, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork.
- 4Place the dumplings on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
