Peach Dumplings

Peach Dumplings

This recipe is a simplified version of Apple Dumplings No. 1, adapted for peaches.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium Peaches
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
  • 1/4 cup Cold water
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter (or shortening) using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the cold water, mixing until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
  2. 2Peel and pit the peaches. Slice them into wedges.
  3. 3Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into circles large enough to enclose each peach half. Place a peach wedge in the center of each dough circle. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Fold the dough over the peach, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork.
  4. 4Place the dumplings on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
