Paste No. 2

A simple pastry paste recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3 cupfuls All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoonful Baking powder
  • 1/4 pound Butter or vegetable shortening (Originally beef suet, freed of skin, and chopped very fine. Substituted with butter or vegetable shortening for modern preference.)
  • 1 cupful Water

Instructions

  1. 1Place the flour, sifted with the baking powder, in a bowl. Add the butter (or shortening) and water. Mix until a smooth, rather firm dough forms.
  2. 2Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using.
