Onions, Baked
Baked onions prepared with butter, pepper, salt, and soup stock, then browned in the oven and served with gravy.
Ingredients
- 4 medium Onions
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1/2 cup Soup stock
- 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour
Instructions
- 1Peel the onions. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the onions and cook for 5 minutes. Drain the onions and repeat with fresh, salted, boiling water for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are slightly softened.
- 2Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the cooked onions closely together in a baking dish. Season generously with salt, pepper, and dot with butter. Pour a little soup stock over the onions. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the onions are browned.
- 3While the onions are baking, in a small saucepan, heat the remaining soup stock. Whisk in the flour to thicken the gravy. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- 4Remove the baked onions from the oven and arrange them in a deep dish. Pour the thickened gravy over the onions and serve immediately.
