A historical recipe for preserving small musk melons.

Ingredients

  • as needed Musk melons
  • as needed Onion
  • as needed Horseradish (Scraped horseradish)
  • as needed Mustard seeds
  • as needed Cloves
  • as needed Whole pepper
  • as needed Vinegar
  • as needed Salt

Instructions

  1. 1Take small musk melons and cut an oval piece out of one side. Use a teaspoon to remove the seeds.
  2. 2Fill the space in the melon with a stuffing made of chopped onion, scraped horseradish, mustard seeds, cloves, and whole pepper. Sew the oval piece back in place.
  3. 3Put the stuffed melons in a jar. Pour boiling vinegar with a little salt over them. Repeat this process 3 times, then put in fresh vinegar and cover the jar tightly.
