Ice Cream Candy

A simple candy recipe from 1888.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup White Vinegar (A little less than 1/2 cup)
  • 1 1/2 cups Cold Water
  • piece size of a walnut Butter
  • to taste Vanilla Extract (Originally Extract Royal Vanilla. Substituted with Vanilla Extract for modern preference.)

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, combine the sugar, vinegar, and cold water. Add a piece of butter the size of a walnut. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  2. 2Continue boiling the mixture until it hardens. Add vanilla extract to taste.
  3. 3Once the candy hardens, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Then, pull the candy until it turns white.
