A recipe for making graham crackers.
Ingredients
- 1 quart Graham flour
- 1 tablespoonful Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoonful Salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoonfuls Baking powder
- 2 tablespoonfuls Butter (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference.)
- 1/2 pint Milk
Instructions
- 1Sift together Graham flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and mix until a smooth, consistent dough forms.
- 2Flour a clean work surface. Turn out the dough and knead well for 5 minutes. Roll the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch.
- 3Cut the dough into small envelope-shaped crackers. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Handle carefully while hot.
- 4Let the crackers cool completely. Store in an airtight container for later use.
