Gingerbread

Gingerbread

A classic gingerbread recipe from the Royal Baker Pastry Cook.

Ingredients

  • 1 cupful Brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoonful Butter
  • 1 cupful New Orleans molasses
  • 2 teaspoonfuls Baking powder (Originally Royal Baking Powder.)
  • 2 1/2 cupfuls Flour
  • to taste Ginger or spice

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, stir together the brown sugar and butter until they form a cream.
  2. 2Add the New Orleans molasses and mix well.
  3. 3In a separate bowl, stir the baking powder into the flour.
  4. 4Add ginger or other spices to taste.
  5. 5Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake in 1 large loaf for 1 hour, or in 2 small loaves for 30 minutes.
