Fried Tomatoes
A simple recipe for fried tomatoes.
Ingredients
- 4 medium Ripe tomatoes
- 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
- 4 tablespoons Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
Instructions
- 1Slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick slices. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
- 2Place the flour in a shallow dish. Season with salt and pepper. Dip each tomato slice into the flour, ensuring both sides are coated.
- 3Melt the butter (or vegetable shortening) in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Carefully place the floured tomato slices in the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and tender.
