Fried Oysters
A classic recipe for fried oysters.
Ingredients
- 12 oysters Oysters, fresh
- 1 large Egg
- 1 cup Cracker crumbs
- 1/8 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1/4 cup Butter (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference.)
- 1/4 cup Vegetable oil (Originally lard. Substituted with vegetable oil for modern preference.)
Instructions
- 1Select the largest and finest oysters. Drain them and pat them dry with a clean cloth. Place the oysters on the cloth, cover with another cloth, and gently press to remove excess moisture.
- 2In a shallow dish, beat the egg. In another shallow dish, combine the cracker crumbs and pepper.
- 3Heat the butter and vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Dip each oyster in the beaten egg, then dredge in the cracker crumb mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Fry the oysters in the hot oil mixture for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the fried oysters from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
