Farina Dumplings

Farina Dumplings

A simple dumpling recipe using farina, cooked in boiling water and served with fruit sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart Milk
  • 10 ounces Farina
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoonfuls Baking powder
  • 1 tablespoonful Butter
  • 1/2 pound Fine flour
  • as needed Salt
  • as needed Water

Instructions

  1. 1Bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan. Gradually whisk in the farina, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Continue to boil, stirring frequently, until the farina is well cooked and has thickened, about 10 minutes.
  2. 2Remove the farina mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly. Stir in the melted butter and the eggs, which have been previously beaten. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. 3Gently fold the dry ingredients into the farina mixture until just combined. Bring a pot of well-salted water to a boil. Drop spoonfuls of the farina mixture into the boiling water. Boil for about 15 minutes, or until the dumplings rise to the surface and are cooked through. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon.
  4. 4Serve the dumplings immediately with fruit sauce.
