Candied Popcorn
A classic treat of candied popcorn.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoonful Butter (Originally butter.)
- 3 tablespoonfuls Water
- 1 teacupful White granulated sugar (Originally white pulverized sugar.)
- 3 quarts Popped popcorn (Use freshly popped popcorn.)
Instructions
- 1In a medium iron kettle, combine the butter, water, and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- 2Boil the mixture until it reaches the hard-crack stage (about 300-310°F or 149-154°C). Use a candy thermometer to check the temperature.
- 3Remove the kettle from the heat and immediately throw in the popped corn. Stir briskly until the candy is evenly distributed over the corn.
- 4Stir the mixture until it cools slightly. Continue stirring until each grain of popcorn is separate and crystallized with sugar. Be careful not to burn the popcorn.
